Love reading, especially techy stuff.
Good 4 U !
Helps keep the voices at bay 4 me.
About 20 years ago I bought the books “Linux in a Nutshell” and “Programming PHP”. They were a pretty dry read too.
I had more fun and learned more by actually doing stuff, learning as I go. So instead of reading a book on Apache and web servers, I just installed it and read How-to guides on configuring it depending on what I wanted to do. Same with email servers, IP masquerading, etc…
I continue to read tech articles online but I don’t buy big fat manuals/books anymore. A few months ago I had to setup something called a QNAP NAS for a client and I didn’t know anything about it so I downloaded the manual and read it, but stuff like that is the exception.
Good I want to have server too. Do I need it?
If you want to run a website then you need a web server. You can rent a VPS server from a hosting company and setup the entire server yourself, or you can use shared hosting from a hosting company and they setup everything.
When I started out back in the late 90’s/early 2000’s I built a separate computer here at home, got a static IP from my ISP, and setup a web and email server here at home. That is how I learned how to do it. I don’t run a web server or email server out of my house anymore, but I still have a Linux server that I use to backup my files and stuff.
