I’m having really bad depression (or neg symptoms) recently and I’m unsure which it is. Is there any easy way to tell between the two?
If you feel sad, hopeless, or very irritable then depression. If it’s just general lack of motivation and inability to focus without any mood changes than negatives. However it can be very hard to distinguish because negatives can cause depression so you can have both at the same time.
People with prodromal schizophrenia get mistakenly diagnosed with depression all the time . So even trained psychiatrists have trouble with that question.
Could one say that negatives are depression symptoms without the sadness?
Depression is a feeling of hopelessness or that things are never going to go well. It is a little different from say not setting goals, poor hygeine or lack of talking. If you are unsure of what they are it might be worth reading through a list of them.
No, I know what the negative symptoms are I was just looking for a shortcut to say what I was feeling. Thanks!
@tstripe I was having negative symptoms without the sadness but definitely adonhia. I’m on 20 mg Prozac now and that has helped tremendously along with amyloban
Thanks. I have had hypomanic and depression mixed states and negative symptoms. I haven’t cleaned up in a week, avolition, anhedonia, have lack of real emotion, no energy, no interest in anything. I’m on 40mg of Prozac and 400mg Seroquel.
With depression, you have sad mood and lack of interest and lack of motivation and apathy.
With negative symptoms, you have lack of interest and lack of motivation and apathy without the sad mood.
@falcon09 how are you feeling?
