How to stop philosophizing?

Im putting this in the dx category as i think although we all philosophize, for me (and j assume many schizophrenics) its become an obsession and i cant turn the switch off. This is probably my main symptom as i think we often forget that by definition schizophrenia is an individual that is cut off from reality. The scope and specification of this detachment varies though.

Im alone for atleast 8 hours a day and i spend atleast 2-4 of those pacing around my house talking to myself outloud (helps me think or something) about my ideas or reflections on pieces ive read. I hate it. I want to live life, thinking i understand life doesnt mean anything. And the more “insight” i feel i have the more i start hating life.

For example, im grossed out by living creatures, humans included, especially humans. I think living things are not supposed to be, an accident of extreme consequences, and are inherently evil. How then am i suppose to do an activity, productive or not, to continue with life when i dont even like what i am or what im apart of?

I want to ground myself and be present and try to see the beauty of life and the universe like i once felt.

Sorry For the cynicism, but im guessing some of you guys may have experienced this too and hopefully have some advise on moving forward.

I’m like that when I’m ill. Overthinking things. Is there anything else you could do while you’re alone? Like tv movies books music etc ?

I try to listen to music and shut off a bit most times, but its only mildly effective. Movies for some reason trigger me sometimes, tend to avoid them. I could try to read a novel, i just remember in the past i cant focus, mind keeps wandering to these same annoying thoughts. But ill try reading again, thanks for the response @everhopeful

is There any underlaying problem that u Think about?

Thought broadcasting makes people seem evil, I know. Like everyone in the world wants a piece of you or something. But when there’s silence, or I’m surrounded by loved ones, I feel good. Makes me want to keep living.

Yes, but ive yet to be able to put it in proper wording. Its something to do with how psychotic conciousness is. How scary and exhilarating isolation can be. Idk :s

I also talk to myself, its either something funny or something bad. Talking about ur problems can help. Also do u have any coping, like do something u like.

I walk around and talk to myself and pray and I find it very peace provoking. I can figure out stuff and off load that energy that makes me unsettled. Like processing information or experiences into some thing you understand and like. Or having somebody to talk to that can give you feed back like here. Somebody was saying to breathe deep and focus on something good— about people or nature or a haiku poem.

Very Good advice.

I don’t do much philosophizing anymore. I don’t have the brains for that.

I talk to myself all the time about philosophy. I think it’s an issue when it starts to get out of hand by becoming the only thing I think about.

Done it for 7 years straight. I’m getting over it. My head is clear and I have no intrusive thoughts.

How did I do this? Supplements, time, and meds. Time is the biggest factor.

Philosophical thoughts are worsened with OCD and caffeine and cause derealization.

@anon99233869 your coming to these confusions and feelings about life and philosophy because your premises are not good.

A good philosophy starts with good premises and everything follows from there. Check out ayn rand, her premises are as follows:

My philosophy, in essence, is the concept of man as a heroic being, with his own happiness as the moral purpose of his life, with productive achievement as his noblest activity, and reason as his only absolute ." Objectivism is the philosophy of rational individualism founded by Ayn Rand

What you are describing is not philosophy at all, but disordered thinking.

Formal philosophy instead of bar-stool philosophizing with your pals uses language carefully, defines the terms you are using, and examines propositions and assertions using the principles of logical deduction which have evolved over the last 2500 years in the Western tradition.

At a high level, philosophy is based on logic, rational and deep thinking. Anything that is illogical is not philosophy. The highest degree, in any field, is called Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.). There is no way such a name would have been chosen if it is merely based on disordered thinking.

I was not looking to be pedantic, but I think it’s an important distinction to understand.

What about irony or existentialism, its not logical but stress induced hopelessness. And you don’t seem to be pretending to study but have some real knowledge. Philosophising is making generalizations about life, kind of not to knowledgeable but having a lost direction so you are half right @InnerCircle. Its legalism trying to make sense of the world.

mind-forg’d manacles

I used to be on a magical adventure in my own mind and I thought I was discovering so much spiritual stuff. That’s cool and all, but I was obsessed with it. Giving up the obsession was hard. Once you get out of it though, and you’re grounded, you can talk about those subjects again. You’ll just be giving them the same type of attention you would have before you got sz.

I get what you mean when you say insight makes you feel lousy. I cried a few times when I realized how derailed my illness had made me. The honeymoon period was over and reality hit pretty hard. I still like talking spirituality though, I just don’t do it on this forum very much.
