Here is what helped me. At first a doctor has an advantage because they are using their training to psychoanalyze you. You have to learn a little psychology and do the same right back. Then use that knowledge to develop a good rapport with them, if you both understand each others psychology then there is a better chance you can adapt and understand each other and have a better relationship.
When I was first diagnosed I didn’t know anything about psychology and I felt like they were using it against me, and I didn’t feel like I was getting the help I wanted, once I learned more and was on a more even footing with them I got a long better for the most part. I could also better articulate my experiences so the doctor would have a better understanding of what I was experiencing.
I get along with my current pdoc and gp well now.
