How the World Wars Affected Modern Neuropsychopharmacology

I wonder if this is related to that study you posted a while back about the genetic changes in survivors of thw world wars, which led to an increase in mental illnesses?

@Ninjastar That a good thought. You could very well be right. Rightly or wrongly when I think of war and psychology/psychiatry I think of the 1st World war and shell-shock. The way the shell-shocked soldiers displayed odd physical mannerisms. The mind-body connection?

Yeah I think the sharp increase in trauma survivors probably contributed a lot. Even though doctors today tend to treat PTSD without meds.

I wonderif we will experience a similar jump forward in the years following covid. There are a lot of traumatized people walking around right now.

I think you’re right. I’ve not looked at it in depth, but a quick glance points to the neuropsychiatric effects of COVID and previously mentally healthy people developing psychosis - and other mental health problems.

I’d say it’s a fertile area for research.
