We could use plascebo instead of drugs that have side effect

No one really knows as of yet. The brain is a crazy thing.
Generally medications aren’t approved by the FDA unless they have proven to be more effective than placebo. (However this means even ones that are barely more effective than placebo are also released)
It is probably the effect of hope.

Yeah it’s amazing what the brain will do. The placebo effect is very real which is why meds need to be more efficiant. You give people something and tell them it will help them then some people will get help from it.
