How long does it take for your prolactin to lower after stopping invega?

Hello everyone, long time no talk. I recently went to the doctor, and they found that my prolactin was very high. I’ll be lowering my dose of invega until I’m eventually off of it completely, due to it causing the high prolactin, but I was curious as to how long until my prolactin would go back down to normal levels. I’ve been having some breast cancer symptoms, which is why I went to the doctor to begin with, but the doctor wanted me to have normal prolactin levels before doing an ultrasound of my breasts. I’m concerned, because within the last few days I’ve noticed my armpit lymphnodes are swollen on the side of my issues. Any information on how long to expect is helpful.

Days to weeks.

Generally, it’s rather rapid – assuming that it is the cause and not another medication or a pituitary adenoma.

It took 5 months for my period to come back since I got off Invega.

No, the high prolactin levels are definitely caused by the invega. I’m currently not taking any other medications, and they checked for pituitary tumors or issues, and it came back normal. Thank you for letting me know about how long to expect. Hopefully it will go down within a week or two

Well that’s not good to hear. I’m hoping for me that it will be rather rapid, as said by the other user that replied. The sooner it goes down the better. How long were you on it, if you don’t mind me asking?

6 months 15151515

Please post your progress. I take Amisulpride that can raise prolactin levels. I hope they go down for you, and the scan is ok.

6 months off and my prolactin is still high. But I guess around 10-12 months off it should lower significantly

I’ve also read it can take 6 months

I’ll try to post an update if anything else comes up, and once my prolactin lowers. Thank you.

How long were you on invega and what was your dosage? Do you know what your prolactin level was when you found out it was high? Mine was 80. I think the highest normal is 22

Is that for the shot or the pill? Or is it the same for both?

Sorry everyone for all the questions, but were you taking the injection or the pill?

I had the shots totaling 500mg. Last month it was 30 (normal up to 20) which I will also consider high as I’m a 22 year old male so it should be 5-10 max.

It will definitely tale longer for the shots as they keep releasing from muscle stores for up to a year, with the pills it should be waaay less. Have you had the shots or pills?

That’s good news. I only take the 6 mg pill, so I assume it will go down much faster for me.

I take the pill, so I assume my prolactin would go back down much faster because of that, considering the pill wears off much faster. Thank you for letting me know!

I scrolled all the way down to say Misinformation. Invega drops levels. I’ve been fine for over 10 years.

Invega can in fact cause high prolactin. It’s actually a fairly common side effect, although it obviously doesn’t affect everyone. Not only did my psychiatrist warn me about it years ago, but once it started happening, he recommended me to get a bone density scan, because high prolactin can cause osteoporosis, which has happened with several of his patients that have taken this medication. The physician I went to is also certain that it’s the invega causing it, because they did a test for pretty much every cause, and ruled out everything other than invega side effect. Just because it doesn’t affect you personally does not mean it can’t happen.

if ur on the pill and stop it itll prob be completely out ur system within a week to a few weeks so probably a little longer than that it would take fo body to adjust and prolactin to be back to normal
