I checked the official Government database and I have worked for 2,198 days and have been inactive for 4,705 days. I started working when I was 16 (part-time) and worked until age 25. I’m 36 now.
How long have you worked and been on disability?

I’ve worked more than I’ve been unemployed. But that’s only because i stopped working at 27 (I’m 28)
Before that i held jobs or studied for most my life. Aside for compulsory education upto18.
We dont have a database in england thats accessible that tells us how much - that seems neat
I worked for a regular paycheck ( longer for cash paying jobs) for 23 years. I’ve been on disability pay for 8 years.
I worked for 22 years. I’ve been on disability for 28 years.
Only ever worked 8 months in my life. Care assistant doing 65 hours a week. Been on benefits for over 35 years.
I worked for 4 yrs, it was 9-5 with Sat (half day) i earned £120 a week but i feel like i was being ripped off. its been 21 yrs since i stopped working (i broke down at work)
44hrs a week at £2,72 an hr i got covered in dirt and i was run ragged.
I believe minimum wage was £3.60 at that time
I should have gotten at least £158 a week so i was minus £38 a week (almost £2000 a year i was swindled x 4 yrs)
I worked for around 16 until 36. so I worked around twenty years and have been on disability for around 24 years.
Is your signature a bob Dylan lyric?
“His clothes are dirty but his hands are clean”?
I worked off and on from 17-22
Then worked from 22-29
Got ill at 29 and worked about 8/mo total after
I worked from age 17-19, before I got sick and then couldn’t work for three years. then when I was 22 I got a job and have been working fairly steadily ever since. There was one time in there where I didn’t work for a year and another time when I didn’t work for 7 months and there were times when I had months between jobs so altogether I’ve been working almost 40 years.
@anon31960475 yes indeed…it’s from “lay, lady, lay”…good call.
Love bob Dylan!!! Got me through my 20s lol him Paul Simon and Eddie vedder lol
I like all music tho
I worked for 4 months when I was 18. Then worked for 2 years, until a few months ago when I first became unwell.
I worked from 16(unless you count newspaper delivery. If so then earlier) to around 41 I think. So around 25 years. I also worked multiple jobs much of the time so this probably contributed to my work credits or whatever.
THen I went with no income at all for several years. Which is always fun. Probably 4? Not sure. That would leave about 5 years on SSDI.
So theres my breakdown. SOmething like that anyway.
I have no idea. I need to start to sort my self out.
I don’t even know if I’m entitled to the best pension cos lack of work.
I don’t know all the pension stuff.
I kept pension letters from jobs at least
To look into when I’m ready.
I worked a total of 2-3 years in kitchens in my 20s before I got ill at 27. But in retrospect I was so disorganized prior to my illness that there was very little ability to work. I was mostly in school.
After getting medicated I had a nominal position at my father’s company. Then I cared for an Alzheimer’s sufferer for a friend.
Recently I started working again as a CSR but my symptoms flared and I had to quit.
Now I’m getting assisted employment from OVR. Will update as I know more.
I started working when I was 15, using a chainsaw, forestry work. Then I worked at a campground. Bakery in a grocery store later on. Some odd piece work or work placement jobs. Worked for a floor tile place. Then Security. I stopped in my thirties because of a bad fall at work and I haven’t worked since.
I started working when I was 13. Been unemployed at various times
36 now
Never worked in my life yet. I’m soon only 19 though
I started working in 1985 and worked till 2007 so 22 years.
