How do you respond to a scolding?

I have learned to bow my head a little, be quiet and listen. I was so neglected by my family that I was not ever corrected by them. So, a scolding had always scared me. I have learned to respect people who can tell me I’m doing something unacceptable without them being judgmental.

I shut down. I sulk. A lot of the time if I had just been assertive I could have quickly cleared the matter up.

I could defend myself, too, but that would lead to even more conflict. I’d rather let it go with a little acceptance that life and relationships aren’t perfect.
