How do you determine when a thread will close?

How do you determine when a thread will close? Does the computer do it sometimes automatically? How is that determined?

I don’t know maybe ask mods.

Yes some categories close automatically if there’s no activity for a few days. Like the lounge.

All new threads in all categories except News, Meta and Medications close automatically after a set amount of time (after last reply). The time varies by category. We did this to avoid long dead threads from being posted in since this is confusing to people and can sometimes bother the OP.

Thanks. I was just curious. And what is the OP?

OP = original poster. The one who started the thread.

Well, if you see a post that says “APs made my peenie weenie” expect this:

Also, posts about wanting to commit suicide, posts attacking others, posts encouraging people to become more delusional, and posts about The Beatles (we’re looking at you @77nick77.)

Forum software has options in the forum posts settings menu. You can choose from a number of closing settings. If a post has no reply after 14 days, if it is older than 90 days, etc. I used to run (adminned and modded)a few forums years ago, am sure it is even more options now.

Yeah, I’m a habitual, incurable Beatles poster.

And unrepentant!

Those posts were funny. The weenie ones.

Only a teensie-weensie bit.

I see everything from years past

they try telling me to restart a thread

and many people do it, from even 5 months ago.
