How do we reach the homeless?

It’s common knowledge that many of them

have mental illness

or some other kind of ailment

I got Phil in to giving a few bucks to anybody on the street

he knows I care very much
and have volunteered at many places

I’ve seen stories on FB that doctors have gone out
on the street to try to help

I’m in paradise here and feel so bad for the marginalized.

My way of helping is to donate to my local homeless charity.

That’s excellent. I’m not very good at ‘hands on’/practical stuff so donating is my best option.

Education. They don’t use the internet. Homeless are to busy surviving in the cityjungle. They are not allowed to do drugs and alcohol in provided shelters. Most of them don’t want to take meds.
The price or cost of freedom.

I can’t help but think

that many would be helped by meds
but yes, they are not forced to

many are vets or have a long history

I’m convinced it’s broken relationships
I’ve heard their stories.

It’s very hard to get public services and social security alone here. So much bureaucratic red tape and there isn’t enough affordable housing.

I always think that could be me and that I have just been really lucky to have family, etc.
Thank you for reaching out and encouraging others to also.

There is always a few homeless people living in the town precinct where i live. And i was sleeping rough myself 4 years ago before i was diagnosed. Trouble is most of them are self-entitled arseholes and wont hesitate to take you money. But i will donate if i see a young female sleeping out. Usually bung them a subway - and if im feeling genrous a four pack of beer, cos lets face it, most of them want a drink anyway - at least round here they do. Ive slept in a council bin myself - so i wont judge on someone fallen on hard times. If they are heroin addicts (and u can usually tell by how gaunt they are) they can bugger off tho.

well yeah, we have free meals

free supplies, free dog food,

they take it all. We have to tell them

only one item. Many are near homeless.

I told my kids one time at the movie theater,
I’m going out to give something to a guy

on the street in the snow,

I gave him like 17 bucks, everything out of my wallet,
and told the kids we weren’t having popcorn and pop.

But what do you know about that money?

Your money you gave him probably went on a beer.

Our help is limited. Imagine each of the homeless, the daily meals of each of these one, and accommodation. Then we will start thinking education and employment for each of them.

I like your new pic on your profile

yeah, I hear Humility of Mary here does have success stories

of single moms.

Some have to pay, either working, or looking for work.

Thanks, an Asian face is my new profile photo.

In Iowa? What a nice effort!
(There are a few “Humility of Mary”, I am not sure which)

There are 2 specific corners near my doctor’s where is see homeless people all the time.
I live about an hour from where I go to the doctors so I keep an insulated cooler in the car with my lunch or whatnot.
In the summer sometimes I put an extra water in there or give them a bag of chips or whatnot. It doesn’t help much but if it is really hot they might really need the water. Also taco bells 5 dollar fill ups are pretty big, so sometimes I give them one of my extra tacos.

Being homeless sounds tough. If a cig takes the edge off…

I honestly dont mind buying a cheap can of strong beer for a homeless person. Its when they lie to use the money to stick it in their arm i have the problem. Unless you been there you probably wouldnt understand

The reason I don’t give directly to people on the street. It might be used for alcohol or towards something like heroin. Thus I’d be aiding and abetting in worsening their health. I suppose I could always get them some food , but then I’m too nervous to approach people. As it is there are less visible homeless people here than at my last address. My last address was a seaside resort. I think they attract the homeless.

I give to the homeless and try to be nice to them. It makes them happy and makes me happy, even though the feeling on both parties is short lived.
