How best to deal with damp

My home is suffering due to lack of ventilation and heating

There was mould behind my wardrobe, and also around the window

Had to sort out my clothes because its a small cupboard and a lot of them don’t fit me anymore

Wanted to donate them to charity, but everything was damp and again some mould

Does anyone know if those moisture traps things help ?

I can’t have my heating on all the time as it’s expensive!

This week I painted some damp paint on the wall by the window. But I think it has to be just more than condensation

Argh! So irritating!

I think you will have to improve ventilation with ventilation grids. It can be expensive but I think that’s the only solution.

I’d be talking to a tradie like a builder or a painter who deals with such issues. Someone who knows about the problem and how to fix it.

You’re right. Also I think this review for the above product is my problem too

Really great little dehumidifier at great price!

I bought this as the flat has an issue with ventilation due to the construction in the 70’s with no air bricks. These small dehumidifiers are great and capture a lot of the moisture and prevent condensation building. Easy to use and set up

I don’t have air bricks either! The guy upstairs had some fitted a couple of years ago.

My apartment was also built in the 70’s

We know a builder. Might ask him to have a look. I have not seen him in a long time, and I would feel that I am putting him out

Maybe I can add vents to windows? Might be cheaper?

If only you had a landlord you could complain to :slightly_smiling_face:

Landlord complaints don’t go very far here. Many people paying a large percentage of their wage for poor living conditions

My step brother has lived in some of these awful places

Here there are strict rules for letting. You can’t even increase rent if an apartment isn’t energy efficient. But some people break the rules (and risk going to jail as a slum landlord).

I use damp rid. They also have pails of the stuff for bigger rooms. It really works. I think I ordered mine from either Walmart or home Depot.
