…before you’d be inclined to think of him/her as “it”? What sorts of bad qualities would a person like that need to have for you to think of them like that… if you even could think of someone like that at all?

I remember playing a video game where, if you have a certain character in your party, eventually you have to go to her father’s funeral. She’s upper class, and a lot of upper class people she’s known are there. One of them confronts her, and when you speak in her defense, he says, “it speaks!” As though social status can really tell you everything you need to know to have an opinion about someone. I tend to see that sort of mindset as more inhuman than simply being lower class.
