to be fair all substances are “poison” in the wrong doses. Its not really that alcohol is a “poison”. its just a poison in the amounts and concentrations that people usually consume it at. Fermented foods have always been a part of the human diet, necessarily not just by choice. The current situation where we have refridgerators wasnt the case through 99.9999% of our evolution. Often while storing food we had to eat food that was stored at room temperature and which had naturally cultured with beneficial bacteria. Beer is not some evil “poison” its just wheat mixed with water in which bacteria has begun to culture.
In the old days beer etc was drunk at a very low concentration, even before invention of beer etc i mean also in ancient and prehistoric times. Probably were having fermented wheat, barley etc at maybe ~1% alcohol right?
The problem is not achohol. Nothing in this world is inherantly evil. Its how we use it thats evil and poisonous. 1 tablet of asprin will heal your headache. 10 will kill you. a handfull of fermented wheat juice at 1% alcohol will heal and protect your gut biome and make you healthy, 5 shots of a 30% vodka now in 2025 will indeed be poison.
in some ways consuming every substance is a hormesis-like situation. 1 cup of coffee will give energy, 10 will give you a heart attack.
