Hi I'm looking for advice

So I’ve started swimming recently!

However,

I’m beginning to be concerned about the effect of chlorine on my skin. Premature ageing with long term swimming

If I cream myself in coconut oil b4 hand,

Do u think it shall protect my skin from daily chlorine cover?

Take a shower if possible after you swim in chlorinated water— it will rinse the chemicals off your skin. Then you can use coconut oil as a moisturizer afterwards if you want.

Edited to add: it’s great that you’re swimming @Zoe, keep us updated on your pool gains if you wish :+1:

Swimming is a great hobby you can have year-round. Also a great way to stay in shape :+1:

I agree with this. You’re supposed to shower before and after going in a pool . Before, so you don’t get oil etc in the pool filters, and after to wash off the chlorine.

It’s best to use lotions and oils after swimming

My mom just wouldn’t stop telling me to swim. I tried it and I would rather walk around town and my neighborhood.

Thanks @dreamer54 swimming is fun.

Just a drag getting there and all the hassle with dressing and undressing etc

But well worth it. I suppose.

Thanks Tulane. Just using it to get my momentum going for pilates afterwards but I understand the joy of ppl who swim all year round.

I’m personally not a fan of wearing moisturiser.

Thus y I would just wear it during swimming to provide a protective covering from the chlorine. Then have a shower afterwards… Yup that sounds like an awesome idea.

Thanks :grinning:

Yea that’s no problem.

Being a unique person, we don’t all got to swim

If u prefer walking that’s cool

It’s an under rated form of exercise especially if done regularly

The most important thing imo, regarding exercises is to do the type and regular amount that suits ur body. Under or over doing it is subjective.

I used swimming as my main form of exercise for about a year after I got diagnosed with POTS. I swam 3-4 times a week. Never had any problems with the chlorine, but I always showered at the gym immediately after swimming before going home. I do not recommend oil before swimming, that’s a good way to mess up the pool filters. Always shower before the pool and after the pool and you should be fine.

Oh yeh, didn’t think about that.

So I decided with the moisturiser after swim.

Cos I can’t wear it in the pool.

I don’t usually wear moisturiser but the pool is very drying.

Thanks guys ur the best.

Thanku for the suggestion about moisturising after swimming.

I’ve decided I will start moisturising on a daily basis. Now.

I put coconut oil on my face today and it actually feels nourished.

Thanku gals :green_heart:

Nice @Zoe!

Also, if the ends of your hair ever feel dry or get tangled easily, you can put a little coconut oil on them for deep conditioning— just leave it on for a couple mins to overnight depending on how you’re feeling, then shampoo off :coconut: :+1:
