Just read this article. I was first ill over twenty-five years ago and back then I remember I heard some theory that it was caused by our mother’s getting flu during the first three months of their pregnancy.

My mom never had the flue while pregnant but I had severe ear infections as a baby.

She never had to have the flu, anywhere along your lineage of ancestors could have gotten the retrovirus and passed it on.

Can you get this in later life? Are there any tropical virusess that can cause this?

I read that article a couple years ago but forgot it. Whatever the cause, I hope they find a cure in the next 10 years.

The gene can become expressed at an point in your life but most likely it will be in early adulthood if you are going to have it at some point. Viruses might be able to affect the DNA of all your cells even after birth maybe but I have to confirm.
