Have you ever played with your med's?

I put an extra Seroquel in my med tray because I will probably need it to go to sleep tonight. If I start to build up adrenaline in my system I can get in trouble, and an extra Seroquel pops that adrenaline bubble nicely. Every once in a while - not often - like if I stayed up all night - I won’t take my anti-psychotics in the morning so I can stay awake during the day. Like I said, I don’t do this often.

Not with my psychological medicine but have known to over do it on over the counter pain meds when passing kidney stones.

I might be getting kidney stones. My dad had them, so I got the genes for it. Do over the counter pain med’s help?

I find cranberry pills, a flooding of water and the family recipe help more than the pills. The family recipe is 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1/4 cup olive oil and a teaspoon of clover honey swallowed fast three times a day until the symptoms disappear works wonders.

I drink three gallons of 1% milk a week. Is that likely to give me kidney stones? Also, sometimes I take calcium based antacids. Can that give you kidney stones? How much of a role does heredity play in it?

Too much calcium can give you stones, yes. Usually once you pass them, the doctor can examine them and tell you what they’re made of.

Kidney stones are developed from chelating of calcium in the urine from loss of bone calcium, not necessarily the ingestion of calcium rich foods, you get more kidney stones from lack of water and phosphorus drinks like soda pop.

Thanks. That’s what I wanted to know.

The only time I’ve played doctor with my meds was testing them at different times. Like the haldol in the afternoon take it at noon or two pm? I take it at two

I think we all have with some med at some point. Like when I skipped my Geodon and smoked weed when I was 19 or just turned 20. Bad night, powerful yet horrific experience.

Skipping meds should make you more psychotic than before. It’s due to “up regulation” of dopamine receptors. Quack quack

I haven’t really played with my meds I just quit taking them. Crashed and burned.

I have adjusted my dose of meds - taking a bit less or a bit more, when I cannot get a hold of my pdoc.

I have been taking psych meds since I was a kid, I am now i my early 50s - I am very famiiar with what these meds can do.

I dont suggest that people make a habit of playing around with their meds, it should be done with your doctors supervision and guidance.

We all have tinkered with our meds from time to time.

I’ve done a lot of tinkering + learned some useful things by trial + error.

I don’t sweat it if I accidentally skip a dose. I know from experience that I can miss one, or even two doses and it won’t harm me.

Sometimes, when I’m at a party, I will take them four hours later than I usually do. That’s about as adventurous as I get these days. When I used to take an AM and PM, I tried taking them both at night to see if I would be less tired during the day, but I asked my doctor first.

My pdoc wasn’t very nice to me when she asked what the large red gel meds were I had been eating out of one of my prescription bottles.
I told her they were “Red-Hots” (a cinnamon candy) and they were melting in my hands, so I put them in the only place I could find-my empty med bottle.

When I first got Latuda… and was feeling better… I would skip the Seroquel all together and take extra Latuda to fell extra better…

No… just over the top manic. Which felt great… but it still wasn’t healthy.

I get that for a short while when I come off my med’s. Then it goes bad on me.
