I did once and I’ll never do it again. Losing a pint of blood is no joking matter. That was before I was on meds.
I always wondered if u could give blood or even plasma on meds… Plasma pays and i could use extra money but with the meds?..
I’ve given blood before. I had no bad reactions as a result of it. I gave plasma for money too. The waiting line was horrendous and I almost didn’t make the qualifications the first time due to my meds. The second time I tried, I was rejected due to my meds.
Not allowed to give blood with sz in Sweden. Too bad, I would have.
When I was working I gave blood every time the blood mobile came to my job. That way I could get off the phone for a half hour.
Me too. @Loke I seized every chance to get out of the call queues.
But I’ve donated blood many times. I like to do it and from what I read it can have certain medical benefits as well.
Yeah. Working customer service is stressful. I loved getting off the phone.
I took my little daughter (she was I think 3) to a donation center once and I said, " watch them put mommy’s blood in a bag!" She just thought that was the coolest thing
Mr. Star donates whenever he can. I tried, but they don’t want my blood because I have thalassemia. You can’t get paid for it in my state.
No, but I want too. I would love to save lives.
I donate when i can here in the uk. I was worried about being allowed to as well, as im on the depot jab - but they said it was fine so long as i had capacity for consent (which i have!!) Where i go is quite sociable so i dont really get squeamish cos im too busy talking!.
I have spent my life wanting to give blood in the UK and I thought it was because of the medication… I will look into this when I come back from holiday! Wow!
Thanks for this info!
Glad i could help. I just emailed https://www.blood.co.uk telling them what meds i was on and they said it was ok!
I donated blood about two or three times before I was put on med’s. I donated plasma while I was on med’s, but then I got a false positive for hepatitus. I was on Haldol, and Haldol can give you a false positive for hepatitus. Now I can’t donate blood anywhere. The people at the plasma center never said anything about me being on psychotropic drugs. I don’t remember if this was the case or not, but you’d think the plasma center would give you a questionaire asking you if you were on any banned drugs before they took your plasma.
I did once, and towards the end I almost fainted; if it weren’t for the nurses jumping on me with a wet cloth I would’ve been out for sure
NO, but I once had a blood sample taken, but the nurse shoved the needle so badly that it hurt big time. Then after that the doctor saw me and could see a big bulge of blood where the needle was inserted. He then placed the stethoscope at my wrist as was shocked that he could not detect my heart pulse.
It took several weeks for the big blue bulge of blood to fade away. Fortunately the vein was not permanently damaged.
However, 20 years later, you can still see a dark dot which was where she inserted the needle.
