My new one asked me that and I didn’t know why. Maybe he knows something about me that I don’t know? I said no because I don’t think I do. Well sometimes I feel a bit guilty if I can’t take care of things around the house. Maybe I should have said yes?
It was not my first time seeing him when he asked similar question. Psychiatry is not always specialized. Psychiatrist many times end up doing heavy lifting done by other mental health professionals. They have to as part of practicing psychiatry. Many of their methods are derived from psychoanalysis. They are not plain psychopharmacologists.
Where I am from clinical psychologists are even rare compared to psychiatrist. They have to do all kind of non-psychiatric work. Career guidance. Family and marriage counseling.
@everhopeful@Owl82 That is real naive assumption. Guilt is more likely to be associated with mood disorder like depression and bipolar. Or schizoaffective. He might need to add antidepressants/mood stabilizers for it. He is better judge for it.
Absolutely not in my opinion. There is a “psych” in “psychiatrist”; the field of psychiatry has everything to do with the psyche and with psychology. Psychopharmacology is just a way to affect the psyche indirectly through pharmacotherapy.
Constant guilt feelings are a symptom of depression. I think it’s a relevant question to ask, especially to assess whether negative symptoms are due to Sz or depression.
