Has anyone tried vegan/vegetarian

Yes. I’m still experiencing all those things. I’ve tried almost every medication and nothing stops it so I believe it’s real.

I was vegan for two very long years,

Vegetarian for longer.

I didn’t notice any changes to my overall health/weight/symptoms.

I stopped eating meat in January. I struggled initially with having a balanced diet, but I ended up meeting with a nutritionist a few times to help figure some of that out. I had to learn a lot about food and now I feel like my diet is better than it has ever been before. Not perfect and I’m still learning of course, but I’m doing pretty well. This has undoubtedly improved my mental health.

I’m a mostly vegan vegetarian for my health and environment. Plus the idea of eating flesh is abhorrent to me. Been vegetarian for years.

im back to vegetarianism now. in the past i was vegetarian for 3 years, then vegan for 4 long years. i was at my worst, being vegan. voices constantly, i was unmedicated, and i was obsessed about being a clean animal haha and not eating meat or dairy. the only benefit it gave me, is my skin dramatically cleared up not consuming the dairy.

after a hospitalization, i realized i had no support to be vegan anymore, i was always at odds with the local culture, who loved their meats. veganism is not big in this area of the country. so i gave it up for my mental health, and began to eat meat again for a couple years. but just like last time, after a couple years, i felt guilty about eating animals, and felt like i was defileing myself and being unclean. so now i have gone back to vegetarianism because it’s not quite as strict as veganism, although i dont eat eggs, just cheese and yogurt. i don’t have to supplement being vegetarian and feel like i can still be healthy. i lift weights and can get about 70-80 grams of protein a day eating this way. fyi, one of the top powerlifters in america is vegetarian, can’t remember his name though. anyways im happy to be eating this way and have lost 25 pounds. and am happy to not be harming animals, other than the dairy.

the hardest part is being around non vegans, who will socialize with food and offer you meat. just last night, my cousins boyfriend offered me deer jerky, and i just said “no thanks, i just ate”. so anyways what i do, is eat a little turkey on thanksgiving and that’s it for my meat consumption for a year. i do it, not to stand out, and don’t like to get into conversations with people about my vegetarianism, since it will only make me seem like even more of an outcast. although i could probably just have a big plate of the sides, so maybe that is what i will do. it’s my little secret, the mexican restaurant in town has a vegetarian section so if i go out and eat, that is where i go.

I still eat meat, but I use soy milk because I’m lactose intolerant. I also have veggie burgers because I haven’t been able to find precooked beef hamburgers that you heat in the microwave.

another difficult thing, is going on road trips. i typically take 3 or 4 trips a year. i usually bring along some yogurt and lots of cheese and nuts like pistachios. i try not to be so active when im on vacation and typically lose a little weight. but on meds, when i come back home, i can easily get my weight back up. also i go for a lot of rice and pasta at restaurants or salads. mom and dad eat a lot of meat, i tried to change them and preach to them, but it was like banging my head against my wall. so now i don’t preach and accept them. mom usually makes a vegetarian dish a couple times a week now though, and i will eat that with them. and even when she doesn’t, she makes a lot of potatoes, and green beans, and rice, and roasted veggies as sides. so i have something to nibble on. but other than my vacations i don’t socialize much or go out much, and prepare most of my own food. that makes it easier for me, i don’t go to parties anymore or anything like that where food is a focus other than thanksgiving at my sister’s place.

also im blessed in that i have a little land where i can have a veggie garden, even though it’s a relatively small garden. mostly i grow my own salad greens, and some tomatoes, onions, herbs, peppers, and carrots. i thought about growing tubers, and have in the past, but they are not expensive and i can easily buy them in a grocery.

What made you go vegan?

me the fact that animals are being killed for stupid ass reasons i didn’t want to be apart of the horror that happens in farms and in slaughterhouses Eating the body of another being is wrong and drinking milk from another stuffing animal we should be calling this as murder if it happens to Humans just because animals cant speak doesn’t mean they should be treated this way WE HAVE to be THERE VOICES

I was vegetarian but went back to eating meat sometimes for the very reasons you are wondering about being vegetarian! I thought that maybe some of the nutrients in meat may help to maintain a healthy brain. Honestly I can’t say that anything about diet really helps SZ that much other than maintaining an overall healthy diet.
