Oh damn! That sucks. For so many reasons.

Maybe he got recruited into Santa’s special ops team - the ones who deliver Christmas presents to kids in dangerous areas ( Afghanistan, Syria, Nigeria…)
That would explain his need for a break. Devising plans to avoid all the mine fields and also losing weight in order to fit through narrow chimneys takes time and lots of preparations
