Grocery store incident

I was at the checkout with my headphones on and the cashier thought I couldn’t hear him so he began to turn and talk about me making head gestures and ■■■■ to the bagger. I said funny you talk ■■■■ about someone you don’t know. Made them uncomfortable but idgaf.

Kinda rude of you to have your headphones on while going through the cash…just my opinion.

I have schizophrenia. I wear them through the grocery store because I get paranoid of people. Anyway, I’ve noticed several workers laughing at me before. This guy was being an ass. I don’t wear headphones to be rude. I have social issues.

I didn’t have music on so I could hear him anyway

I don’t think it’s rude to wear head phones in public places or when going through the checkout.

The cashier probably felt he wasn’t worth being addressed by you because you were listening to music instead of chatting with him.

He couldn’t have known you had schizophrenia…probably just thought you were being arrogant.

@Moonbeam

It’s very rude to wear headphones or talk on your phone while going through a checkout.

Give it a rest @PatrickT. You’re being pretty judgmental.

I think it was really brave of you to call someone on their being a jerk and talking about you! You didn’t let them get away with it and next time maybe they’ll think before they make fun of or bad-mouth another person.
You’re a customer spending money in a store. If you had said or done something rude to the cashier, then I couldn’t support that, but you were just quiet. We don’t owe people conversation just because we’re standing across from them for a few minutes. You were quite and the cashier should’ve been quiet to. I say well done.

What Planet do you people come from??

It’s the height of rudeness to dismiss a cashier or clerk by wearing headphones or talking on your phone while being served. How can none of you not know this?

I can’t hear you Patrick, I have headphones on.

Lots of people with disabilities wear headphones in public to cope. Perhaps the public should be made more aware of the reasonable coping skills people come up with to be able to function in our fast-paced society, so they don’t immediately assume someone is being rude just because they wear an assistive device.

Next time I go through the checkout at the grocery store, I’m going to play the bagpipes while the cashier is ringing through my order. Seems reasonable to me.

Enjoy your break, Patrick. When you come back, try treating everyone with respect for a change. You’d be surprised how easy it is!

Patrick, enough. I know it’s difficult for you to let something go when you feel strongly about it, but please take a deep breath and stop insulting someone who is already struggling as it is.

I wish I had music playing at the time so I hadn’t heard him call me gay…

That would be an aggressive gesture. Being quiet and needing your own space just so you can maneuver in public and get shopping done is not aggressive. I’m always polite out in public, and I would never be rude to a cashier doing their job. Their job is to process sales and take my money. If they’re friendly, I respond appropriately. If I can’t talk on a certain day and so I’m very quiet, they can be quiet too and no harm is done. As long as the transaction goes smoothly, no ones feelings should be hurt. There will be more customers who might brighten the cashier’s day, I don’t have to be “it”.

@roxanna, what a moron he must be… don’t let his stupidity get you down; that’s his burden to carry (being stupid). You handled yourself well. Be proud
