15 years ago I had a 400lb pallet land on my foot at work. It smashed my big toe really bad. It took 2 years for it to heal and my toe nail came back messed up. It keeps growing down into my toe. I have to soak it constantly to keep it from getting infected.
I’m terrified to go to the doctor tomorrow. My toe is really sensitive and I’m freaking out about the doctor sticking a needle in it. Normally I’m not afraid of needles. I tapped my toe on the bathtub the other day and almost started crying like a baby.
I had to have my big toenail removed cuz it kept growing into the toe…I also had dropped a weight on it. It hurt worse for about a day after they pulled it out and was very sensitive but I haven’t had any problems with it since then (about 1 year now). It’s worth the procedure for your future comfort.
They actually stuck it twice…at the base then under the nail. My nail was curved upwards with a kind of air-filled hump in the middle so they wanted to go under that. It is SO worth the discomfort, tho…no more painful hitting the inside of shoes, or jumping around after bumping the wall with it. And I can trim it normally now and don’t have to cut my skin to trim a nail that’s gone thru it. The second shot didn’t hurt much cuz the first shot was already working, if that helps. It was easier to watch cuz then I knew what was coming. The actual yanking it out didn’t hurt at all…but it did the next day.
I’m sorry. That sounds really painful. I had to have half of my big toenail removed last year. It was pretty gross, but I’m so glad I had it done. I hope it’s not painful for you.
