Think these stretches are legit? Anything else I ought to do before i run or after? When I was young there was no problem and I just got over twisted muscles and even ran on them because I was hard on myself like that.
My more recent attempts at running weren’t so successful, although walking I found was great exercise.
I’m a little nervous about getting out of the house, as I live in a more congested area than when I ran before. I guess I’ll just put my headphones on.
Plenty of coaches, athletes, personal trainers, fitness experts etc. recommend warm up stretches before exercising or running. And even afterwards I believe. When I was in shape many moons ago I personally never bothered with warming up or stretching. If I wanted to run 5 miles or play football for an hour and a half I just went out and did it. And my performance never suffered and I never pulled anything or suffered injuries.
But I believe as you age and if you are not in good physical condition and you plan on running a few miles then I can see the need for using warm up techniques and stretching.
Yasss!!! I am going jogging tonight … or maybe more like a Super fast paced speed walk or slow motion run cause it’s been a while… but either way… I can’t wait …
I didn’t get out to run yesterday or today, but perhaps tomorrow. I did use an indoor bike for about fifteen minutes and plan to do fifteen more later tonight. Not bad but not good enough.
It’s encouraging to hear that it helped with a weight problem. Are you taking abilify or something that makes you gain weight?
I’m gonna start running soon though, either tomorrow or the next. Definitely tomorrow if it’s raining. I really enjoy running in inclement weather. And you’re right about it being easy to pick back up if it was once a habit. I’ve gone on and off with running, and it’s just like riding a bike. There was a point where I was running 3.5 miles a spot every other day. Hoping to get there again.
Don’t stretch cold muscles. Do a light w/u then stretch. Your muscles are like rubber bands. Also, do c/d and stretch afterwards. Foam rollers area good investment too
