Going back to high school

I’m trying to lose weight and I’m seeing a nutritionist. I had an appointment today with her and her office was at a high school of all places. I usually go to a nearby clinic but for this appointment they re-routed me to an office at a high school. I had never been there before and I was wondering how I would fare walking through a bunch of high school kids.

I got there at 2:00 pm and school was letting out. The place was crawling with kids. Walking down the street and all over the school. But the whole experience was OK. It’s in a semi-bad part of town but I parked and went looking for the office.

Right away I was lost so there were two kids sitting on a sidewalk and I asked them if they knew where the office was. It was a guy and a girl and they immediately tried to help me. They were really friendly. The girl was explaining but I wasn’t following her explanation so she got up and walked me a little ways in the right direction. Nice kid. So I set off. I was just kind of walking along checking out the area.

I looked at some of the people and they didn’t mind. It’s a tough area and I was just curious about the people who live in places like that. There were some tough characters, a lot actually but I got a couple of hard looks and that was it. I’m ashamed to say (or maybe proud) that I did kind of glare or tried to scare some people who irked me. But that’s normal, it is what it is.
I found the office eventually and I talked way to briefly with the nutritionist.

I don’t know about these nutritionist people. I find it’s a weird profession in my little experience with it. Because it’s not an exact science and it seems they really don’t have a set plan. They are playing it by ear and they don’t seem to know exactly what they are doing. And I seem to already know a lot of what they know or more and they tell me stuff that contradicts with what I know for sure.

They bring up old doubtful theories about carbs and other things. It’s not their fault, even experts in dieting contradict each other or disagree with what makes a good diet. The say the exact opposite of each other or dismiss diets. Anyways, I see her again in a month. And it was cool walking through, like a million kids. Some were friendly some weren’t. Cool experience.

I get intimidated by hs kids too. But when I met the ones on the debate team I remembered what it was like to be a teen. All different personalities! It is really no big deal, I find that kids don’t actually think anything of strangers on campus. Some probably mistaken me for a student… -_-"
