I’m heading off to LA to check out the University’s engineering school and see if it is the right fit.
LA is an interesting city. Anyone have any related stories, experiences, or opinions of it?

First good thing that comes to my mind is that you get to visit cool places and you might run into a celebrity.
First bad thing(s) is that I’ve heard the people are unfriendly, the cops are crooks, and there’s lots of traffic.
But that’s coming from a loyal SF native.
Heard the same things as a Sac native. I’m going to be in a pretty nice area and a collegey town feel. I do like the adventures it proposes, though.
Keep me updated. (also, have you thought about Santa Cruz or is LA definite?)
I will. My main options I have open are LA, USC(way too expensive though), Irvine, San Diego, (maybe Davis). I like LA because they also have a clinic for people with sz/a disorders open all the time. I will be utilizing this…
Bon voyage! Sounds exciting. Hope it all works out well.
Irvine is a great school in a “nicer” area, although if you like/want the urban feel it won’t have that. USC is in a dark pit of an area…great school surrounded by crap. I lived in the SF Bay Area for almost 20 years and now live in Southern Cal for a little over that time. I hate LA, but a friend of mine from North Cal loves it, so attitude plays a role. Just don’t expect pretty. If you like the beach that’s a bonus. There are friendly people everywhere and on a college campus you have a common culture that isn’t influenced by the city… You’re super impressive, @Sharp and friendly, etc., and you’re going to do great wherever you decide to be.
Good luck Sharpii, hope all goes well
You can check out anytime you like, but you can never leave
First day I toured USC. I found it to be a bit too expensive but still beautiful. Most of the engineering students were from overseas and others were very posh. I’m not a very fancy person and wasn’t sure how well I fit in. I still liked the school and have my eye on it. I’m going to stay with some engineering girls tomorrow in UCLA and am very excited as well.
Some of the engineering students may come from Asia. Great journey, @Sharp.
Most to almost all I saw did. There is nothing wrong with that; it is just that I didn’t feel like I connected with them. They all had their own cliques I felt.
How was your visit to UCLA? I think it’s a great idea to visit the various universities you’re interested in attending and talking to students there. We need more women in engineering. Go @Sharp !
I used to be a lego engineer and worked at University San Diego it was really close to the beach which was cool but I think parking was a nightmare. It depends on if you would be driving/living in dorms.
An update for you guys!
I loved UCLA! I am going to attend there. Everyone was very genuine and made me feel right at home. I did a stay over program with other girls in engineering and loved it. My host was awesome and showed me all the ropes. The campus itself is beautiful and located in Westwood and is fairly safe.
The campus has tons of hills on it. Sooo many stairs. I really actually enjoyed that!!!
Oh man I hope you guys have been having a nice time in my absence. Take care!
Also, sz-wise that have a clinic there in the hospital next door. I didn’t experience any thing weird until the end. Just voices when I was really tired and a few visuals. Overall, it was a great environment on campus.
Sounds like you’re making the right decision. I hope it all works out.
I don’t think the @everyone thing actually does anything , but it still looks cool though.
Yeah it doesn’t work for me either.
Glad you had fun sharpii
Maybe we’re just tagging a dude named everyone @everyone
That made me laugh! Yeah, some guy who just wants to be left alone to lurk. What do they want from meeee?!?
Oh man! I thought it was working. That is awkward XD!
