Gap between patients with schizophrenia and their psychiatrists on the needs to psychopharmacological treatment: A cross-sectional study

Oh yeah for sure. Far too many psychiatrists just have the goal of eliminating positive symptoms. They do not care if the meds in the process of doing so give side effects so debilitating that the person’s functioning and quality of life is as bad as it was off meds. The goal of psychopharmacology should not be the elimination of symptoms; it should be the improvement of function and quality of life.

I think it comes down to positive symptoms more likely to disturb Joe and Joanna public while negative ones mostly affect the person with SMI . Certainly in the UK when the acute and positive symptoms are not prominent you get put to the bottom of the pile re help and support . If you’re coping to any degree at all, then that’s seen as good enough .

Yes so the mental health system does not have the wellbeing and happiness of the patient in mind but rather that they are kept subdued. That is depressing.

In Essex I had no social worker. For the last 8-9 years being there no care coordinator as no longer qualified to have a care plan. I was seen once in my flat due to missing a depot . Was basically self neglecting , but the most I ever got told was that my fingernails were getting long .
