People always comment on how violent the United States is with so many guns and so many mass shootings and other violent crimes.
Well, it’s not surprising; look at our national anthem! Our country was founded on violence. We’re about the only country on earth who sings about rockets and bombs in their national anthem.
The Star-Spangled Banner
Oh, say can you see by the dawn’s early light
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight’s last gleaming?
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O’er the ramparts we watched were so gallantly streaming?
And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there.
Oh, say does that star-spangled banner yet wave
O’er the land of the free and the home of the brave?
It’s also damn hard to sing.
