Probably because it’s a form of gluttony and therefore tends to make people angry. I don’t think it’s inherent in the sufferers though…
People get defensive as their alcoholism spirals out of control. All the bad things they do and their lack of responsibility make us defensive when people bring it up. The more irresponsible an alcoholic gets the more defensive they get, at least with some of us.
