Forums for other mental illnesses?

They allow more open discussions on things that get shut down on this site. But you also don’t get the trolls like you get on this site. Idk why…

Yes most people just come once with a particular question or needing help dealing with a family member or friend but there are several people that post consistently.

I remember one day I was on it all day helping people with serious ass problems. Serious issues don’t go ignored on this site.

Kind of strange how their so different.

One thing that annoyed me was that there was one user from the antipsychiatry subreddit that posted stuff against being on meds and tried to convince people to go off meds and the mods didn’t ban him.

I agree with more open discussions. The power of downvoting is huge. That doesn’t exist in this site.

Their usually trolls. And usually trolls get their ass handed to them on Reddit.

Does the same person still post on there?

Less frequently than before.
It all because of a journalist, Robert Whitaker and his madinamerica site full of misinterpretations of studies and antipsychiatric theories.

I think reddit sucks for actual conversation / debate. Upvotes and downvotes stop people judging words on their own value and thinking for themselves. Unpopular opinions get lost and considered “wrong”.

when i first started using this website in 2003/4 i remember the chat features and i was excited to have actual friends that i could chat with but this was short lived and the powers that be decided chat was too volotile for these forum with arguments and trolls spilling over onto the forum, i really wish they could bring it back bc i felt like i was recovering quicker using that chat feature within our community at that time, is there no way we could bring it back and just have moderators like we have for the forums? i know this has been brought up loads of times and rejected but i can still see the good that comes with having a real time chat feature. kind of know what you will say though :frowning:

What stops you from PMing other people? Or taking details and speaking elsewhere?

It is against the rules to give out details for offsite communication. We don’t see PMs, but we highly discourage people from doing this as it has led to unsafe situations for several people already.

@firemonkey had set up a chat but i’m not keen on that anymore

Wow. I’ve never been on a website where that is the case.

The rules and guidelines can be found here

This is the specific part.

Thanks. I was curious as to why.

Out of interest though - if I gave someone an email or an account that doesn’t have my name (or address etc) on it - would be considered breaking the rules?

The way the mod team was told to interpret that rule, yes it would break the rule. That said, it’s not like we would suspend someone for doing so privately in PM. We just ask you to be aware for your own safety.

Okay. Thanks for clarifying.
