For UK peeps?

Does anyone know the government rules about if you’re 35 and over,

What are the conditions to have a one bedroom flat? On housing allowance??

Thanks,…

Is there different rules for 35+ ?

I’m of the impression that housing benefit is awarded to anyone who requires it and is eligible for universal credit. they may not pay all your rent (esp if private renting) but they’ll pay the maximum awarded in that area

Edit. There’s benefits calculators which can estimate and apply the geographical restrictions you need to work out what they can offer online, I can link if you want. or google can find it quickly too; search: UK benefits calculator

I think there’s some kind of rule that once you are 35 or over and some other eligibility criteria, u are entitled the housing allowance amount that covers a 1 bedroom flat as opposed to a room in a shared accommodation.

But I can’t find the eligibility criteria in a very clear way. Even on the gov site.

Hm, I’m not sure. I’m under 35 and my rent is a for entire flat. It might be a geographic specific rule, in this area it’s not a rule. As long as you’re eligible for housing benefit; they’ll pay it towards whatever housing you live it

Edit. Have you contacted your local council?

It’s over 25. When you can claim a higher amount of housing benefit. Take into account bills on flats cost more. I used to live in a room so I’m sure you’ll get something better eventually.
