Practice is all it takes. Most of the problems can be solved in a matter of seconds. That said, chess. com is more generous than most with ratings, both with games and puzzles (currently in my 2600s but have been up 2730 something). Chess is for virtually everyone.

Memory is central to contemporary chess in a way unknown in the past. Every top player has unprecedented access to existing games databases so they are competing on the basis of this accrued knowledge.

I’m good if I can win in a couple of moves. I lack the long term planning involved with chess to be successful but my game isn’t too bad for amatuers.

I like war games which chess is a simplistic version of. I like reading rule sets and playing games. It’s a part of my being for sure and you get some joy out of it!

I used to like playing it when I was a kid, then they gave me timers in school to think quick and that unmotivated me to play.
I end up going to a prize winning tournament, it was like 2000 euros or something and there were a lot players there. Got defeated so easily :sweat_smile: the timer didn’t helped

My dad taught me how to play chess when I was a kid. I played a lot. I never did beat him back then. I haven’t played in 30 years probably.

I taught myself how to play when I was 24. I started playing online and doing puzzles in books. I got pretty good at it. I had 4000 games under my belt on yahoo. I got to a point I hit a brick wall and couldn’t get any better without teacher. I miss the old yahoo chess rooms.

Just use the V strategy. You can beat any newb. I’m not very good just know that one strategy.
