I suspect that black beans enhance mood and relief negative symptoms as well low energy states. Why? I do not understand, but, emotions seem to come back when I eat them at certain times. It is like something better extended than the use of coffee e.g…
Have you tried? I have eaten them twice today and I feel great again. What do you think?
I also feel good with a type of butter rich in omega 3 and 6, it seems like also like a mind elixir sometimes. Do you know foods that help?
Weird, another user here said it worsens their symptoms lol I don’t think it has any effect on schizophrenia. I ate beans and nothing changed.
Maybe there are several factors implied. I am not sure, but I do not think it is not just coincidence. There is something in beans I believe. You can read here this excerpt from another context referring Fava beans:
"Fava beans are a broad bean and have potential clinical relevance in patients with Parkinson disease because they contain high concentrations of the dopamine precursor dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa) (1–3) and have the potential to increase the striatal dopamine content. Fava beans have, in fact, been used as complementary medicine by patients with Parkinson disease (4, 5). Ingestion increases plasma dopa concentrations and improves motor skills in patients with Parkinson disease, similar to l-dopa administration (3, 5–7).
I always eat fava beans with sesame Tahini.
Nothing improved. Also raising dopamine is the opposite of what medications do, reducing dopamine. More dopamine means more positive symptoms like paranoia, hallucinations and delusions.
Salmon enhances my mood, but I think that is just because it is delicious.
My therapist once gave me a list of foods that are supposed to help with mood. I ate strictly off the list for a month and was still a mess, but less so. I do believe diet helps, but it isn’t the whole picture.
Right. But, for example, Abilify is a partial dopamine agonist. I still defend beans have good properties… many factors might be involved to explain how I feel today and when I eat beans.
Salmon has omega 3 too. I like salmon, although, I do not notice nothing evident in my mind immediately.
Chocolate enhances my mood, but I’m not sure why.
I agree with you @John_Raven.
Chocolate or strawberry milkshakes from dairy queen. Mmmm so taste
Theres chemicals in chocolate that causes the same feelings in h8mans as warmth and love. I’ll look it up.
Well, I don’t know if black beans enhance my mood. I know they give me gas.
Beans, beans, the musical fruit
The more you eat, the more you toot.
The more you toot, the better you feel
So let’s have beans for every meal.
Japanese Sencha green tea. Its like drinking happiness.
Sure flipping copy off of me and everybody likes your post instead.
I know this isn’t going to be popular, but sugar. Sugar improves my mood. I also don’t think it’s unhealthy. I think it’s just unhealthy when you eat too much in general or not varied enough. It has a bad reputation because blaming one ingredient feels better than admitting the problem is more complex and more a lifestyle thing.
Yesterday, in fact, I ate black beans but also fava beans in a soup twice. I read this abstract (knowing that they contain high concentrations of the dopamine precursor dihydroxyphenylalanine (dopa )): Thirteen out of 18 young out-patients with simple schizophrenia under neuroleptic treatment completed a double-blind cross-over trial with Madopar [L-Dopa + benserazid (a peripheral decarboxylase inhibitor)] and placebo. Nine patients were given 900 mg L-Dopa + 225 mg benserazid daily, 1 patient received 600 mg L-Dopa + 150 mg benserazid, and 3 patients, 300 mg L-Dopa + 75 mg benserazid. In these doses, L-Dopa was effective against emotional withdrawal, blunted affect, tendency to isolation and apathy, without inducing or aggravating productive, accessory symptoms. The activity score, according to the specific activity-withdrawal scale, was significantly increased (P less than 0.05), whereas the total BPRS score (Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale) was slightly, but significantly reduced (P less than 0.05). In cases where L-Dopa had to be limited to 600 and 300 mg daily, a tendency to anxiety, distortion of thinking, and a sense of unreality were observed, depending on the dose of L-Dopa. In no case were gastrointestinal, cardiovascular or neurological side-effects observed."
Maybe here I have some explanation.
Don’t take L-Dopa, its pure dopamine and will surely cause psychosis or worsen your sz.
