Food adventures

Kid and I bought fresh sardines at the marketplace. I’m a bit nervous. I need to chop their head of and clean the intestines. Iew. I never did that. Mustering up the courage. I pity the sardines a bit. Normally we buy a big fish that they clean for you. The only fish I grew up with was fish sticks…so it’s a bit adventurous for me.

What’s your latest food adventure? What’s for dinner tonight? Maybe there’s a dinner thread still, but I couldn’t find it. Please merge if it’s still there.

OK. Stupid question. Do you eat these with or without the bones?

Maybe he pities my sardines too. Or he is hungry.

Can it be merged with the foodie thread? It didn’t show up. @bowens @Voithos @moonbeam

Haha…we had it all the time as kids. My mum used to make a very fun dish with it to amuse us. Fish sticks with this below (egg, tomato, mayo) and spinach. She was creative. Now I never eat it. I always get fresh fish from the market.

Spicy sardines are good with pickled jalapenos

Sounds good. I don’t have jalapenos now, next time! Don’t know what to put up them really.

Did you guys learn to cook? As children? How? I never - mum always cooked.

I was raised by my dad. I was cooking hamburger helper when I was 8 years old.

Do a quick google and see how to cook them.

I love sardines and would try fresh if I could because seafood is the bomb for me. Absolutely love it and would try pretty much anything that won’t kill me.

I admire your adventurousness as I cook for dad and me and dad is a boring steak, chips and eggs man. It’s hard when you like to cook and to eat and just do the same ole same ole…

Let us know how you deal with those sardines. I’m interested as never even knew you could get them fresh…I’m in the southern hemisphere so they come in tins!

I did find a recipe on allrecipes.com for leftover pulled pork stew, so I might use that one sometime. Thanks for the idea though— never thought to make a stew like this! :+1:
