If delusions are fixed false belief and your delusional because you don’t know if it’s true or not but could be because it’s based in reality how come the psychiatrist gives medication instead of proving its just a fixed false belief, wouldn’t be easer if it was a delusion, its like if someone lies to you and you believe it are you delusional if you think its true
Generally fixed false beliefs don’t respond to getting talked about.
Or, as one AA speaker shared about his addled brain, “At that time, I was one of six people in the state of Texas who knew the truth,”
Many people experienced the thing I did there’s news story’s on it but they just felt harassed and threatened and I felt that too but they’re not schizophrenic like me but I feel deceived
Schizophrenia is an illness and not a calculation error. This is why it requires medications instead of revisions.
A schizophreniac cannot be convinced. Delusions emerge in the subconscious prior to any rational stage of thought where logic can be applied. This is why by definition it is an illness. It is like a hardware failure that cannot be fixed by giving more input.
Still, I do believe that challenging delusions in discussions is important. Sadly it’s not nearly enough on it’s own.
YEah…I don’t know how many times you have tried to talk someone in active psychosis out of a delusion, but it’s usually not very effective until that person is first relieved of the symptoms of psychosis. Believe me, I have tried many times on here. The success rate in this kind of endeavor is very low.
My personal experience was that meds relieved me of symptoms and delusions slowly faded after symptoms were gone.
I couldn’t be talked out of my delusions, not in a million years.
What got me free from my delusions was an increase in meds.
