First aid recertification

Just passed my recertification course for St. John’s Ambulance first aid today:

98% on the exam. Only blew one question that the instructor agreed was very badly worded (what to do when organs are hanging out of a casualty). Very tired. Lots of practice on the CPR dummies and that gets harder each passing year as my arthritis advances.

Pretty cool, Pixel! And I’m sorry to hear you have arthritis; I’m a piano player and it would suck if I got arthritis in my hands…

Nice work. They let us put the dummies on a table last time.

I like terrifying people by telling them I’m AED certified. Haven’t met one person who was comforted by hearing that.

What was the answer? I’d think if organs are hanging out last rites…

As far as I’m concerned, there are three acceptable answers. Faint, run, or scream.

You forgot ‘throw up’.

There were two possible answers that wouldn’t obviously kill the casualty:

  • Put a moist compress on the organs
  • Use your triangular bandage to secure the organs in place.

The correct answer was to put the compress on first and THEN secure it and the organs in place for transport. I assumed that if you could only make one choice (multiple answers not allowed) you would secure the organs with a bandage as you don’t dare have them flopping around during transport. The question only allowed one answer when it contained two correct options and it didn’t specify that you should choose what to do first.

Congratulations, another great achievement.

Very cool, can make a big difference some time. I had some course in first aid at school once, though not up to any certification. I could definitely use some freshing up, thinking of it now. Can’t remember much except for the “stable position”, and the advice to do CPR on the beat of ‘staying alive’ by the beegees :).

Congratulations @shutterbug - Good going
