I’m trying to not always be afraid of any changes. I don’t feel well enough to deal with changes. At that thing at the clinic tomorrow it is 4 hours. My brain doesn’t last that long. I don’t want to cry in front of them. Or have an anxiety attack. That would be so awful. And then I have to do paperwork. I hate it all.
What is the appointment for?
Testing cognitive abilities
You’ll be fine. Ask for breaks, and have a positive attitude going in. I think sometimes the fear of something is actually worse than the task itself.
Don’t make excuses not to go! This is very important! My aunt has schizophrenia and doesn’t attend those programs or try to get help except only when she had to do one for disability. They pulled her husband aside after to tell him that she has the identity of a 6-8 year old and when given a multiple exam test she couldn’t even circle the correct presidents name and that was obama’s 6th year in office. She refuses to try anything that requires learning in any way. It’s very frustrating. She gets us all toys or some kind of cat statue as presents for bdays and Xmas and she just giggles like it’s the best thing in the world. We’re all over the age of 40! It’s not that we aren’t grateful it’s just that we don’t know how to help her without hurting her feelings. When we take her out to run errands she’ll ask to go to the dollar store so she can get some kind of animal sculpture and just giggle and stare at it and talk for a long time about where she’s going to put it. Her house is filled with them. She wouldn’t even be able to join this forum because she wouldn’t understand any of it. It’s sad.
The doctor said he had never seen a patient with that low of cognitive ability. He said some people come in trying to fail the test because they think that’s the only way they will get disability or they think they will get more money but the tests have algorithms to see if someone is trying to fail. He said he knew she wasn’t faking it and even watched her for a week in a facility because some people are just bad test takers but still came to the same conclusion about the age her brain thinks it is!
