Experimental diet

Ive been on a pretty strict diet lately because i really let myself go over the past year and im trying to get my body back to where it was in my peak. Basically im only eating about 700-900 calories a day but im eating only foods that are high in essential nutrients. Mostly im trying to keep my iron and protein up since those seem to be the most difficult nutrients to keep up with on a diet like this. Ive been doing this for a week and so far i feel great. Somehow i feel more energetic than i did before even though im consuming basically no sugar or carbohydrates at all.

The weird thing is that my body seems to have stopped producing solid waste. Ive only been on the toilet about once every two days and when i do have to poop only a very tiny amount comes out. It’s very strange and ive never experienced this before. I assume it’s because my body has been using almost 100% of what i put into it since im eating only nutrient-dense foods.

Also ive mostly stopped feeling hunger. I only eat when it rationally seems like a good idea to do so, and when i do i get full after just a bite or two of food. The only big meal ive been eating is miso soup with kimchi, wakame seaweed, and a boiled egg, which in total has about 100 calories but it fills me up anyway.

I realize this is a pretty extreme diet so im going to pay attention to negative effects but so far ive been feeling very energetic and healthy. I have enough stamina that i was able to get out of my apartment at 8 am today and do a 2-hour power walk before coming home and cooking my miso soup. It felt very rewarding.

I havent has this much peace in my mind in a long time and i sort of feel like i did on APs. Ive noticed that im much more calm and easygoing and i havent had any craving at all for alcohol or marijuana. My sex drive has also gone way up (but not in a way that’s making me reckless, just more interested in sex).

That’s very dangerous and could affect your heart.

Ok is there a specific reason why that is? Is it from iron deficiency? What should i be eating more of, and also what’s a good calorie intake level?

@everhopeful is spot on
Consuming 700 - 900 calories a day is downright dangerous.

Increase your calorie intake and maybe follow a low carb diet but also eating enough vegetables

If you’re eating that amount of calories, your body will start “eating” itself basically .

If you want to lose weight by calorie counting, check out this website to see what amount you should be eating.

Cool, sounds doable. Thanks for telling me. Ive done extreme fasting like this in short spurts when i was in the church, so im trying to get back into the habit of self control. Ill try to bring up my caloric intake to around 1300-1500, and more when i start figuring out a workout routine. Im 6’2" and around 190-200 pounds. I was around 170 pounds at my peak.

I was put on a 600 calorie diet 10 years ago with the hospital weight loss program they had. It didn’t last long. After a while I started feeling super intense hunger. I ended up much bigger than I was before the diet.

You need to be cleared by a dr and monitored to eat a very low calorie diet. Men should eat no less than 1500 calories per day and women should eat no less than 1200, unless cleared by a dr and regularly monitored

Maybe the diet slowed down your metabolism

No. I started eating like crazy because I was so starved. It didn’t work for me to do that

Im working on getting a bike so i can do a lot of cardio. I used to do very intense cardio workouts every day until my bike broke and i could never afford to replace it, which is why i basically gave up on fitness. I really love doing cardio though and i have been missing it, so im eager to get back on board, especially now that the winter is ending.

I got really â– â– â– â– â– â–  up on malt liquor last weekend and had a hard time eating for the next couple of days due to a horrible hangover. Since then my ability to feel hunger has been pretty much gone. Ive been getting some sensation of hunger occasionally, mostly in the morning, but as i said, it goes away very quickly when i eat just a small amount of food.

I ate some more food after reading the posts in this thread and it’s made me pretty bloated. I think my body will have to adjust back to digesting a normal amount.

It went away for me too but after a few weeks my hunger skyrocketed and I ended up gaining a bunch of weight

Interesting. Ive only been on this for a week so im very glad to be learning about the long term effects of this kind of fasting.

Do you know any foods that are high in calories but low in carbohydrates?

Eggs, cheese, avocado, salmon…. There’s quite a few

I eat a lot of boiled eggs but they only have 70 calories each and if i eat more than three ill get heartburn. I know about avocados but theyre pretty expensive. I like tofu but that’s also extremely filling.

Consuming meats is a good idea like chicken and lean beef.
Legumes like lentils are healthy, high in protein.

Not all carbs are unhealthy

You can consume most veggies
