i have good memories of fall because each time ive started olanzapine is around the same time of the year, like when i went through a hellish summer of trying different meds without success in 2017, fall comes around and i end up back on olanzapine cozy, eating good food, watching movies and feeling like i have finally found peace, i just started back on olanzapine a few days ago after a turbulent couple years on invega, it feels nice
Why do you change meds if olanzapine works?
That was going to be my question.
because of the weight i gain when on it, the first time i changed meds i wanted to so i could lose weight, the second time i came to terms with the fact that this may be the only med that really works well for me and ill just have to deal with the extra weight, but when i started seeing a new pdoc they wanted to switch my meds due to its effect on my weight, i panicked at first but they kept telling me to consider it so eventually i gave in, 2 pdocs later, now recently i can no longer put up with the frequent episodes of instability and constant anxiety and avolition that i have on this med so i stopped it and told my doc i cant take invega anymore and to please put me back on olanzapine
Been there my friend, olanzapine was a total disaster for my weight (and other aspects of my physical health) but I was stable while on it. It’s up to you but stability is nice, it’s just unfortunate you have to make a trade off like this.
Yeah, my doc was concerned about side effects too, he even warned me my big gut was putting me at risk for a heart attack, I tried a couple other meds but they either didn’t work or had side effects. I did eventually find Lurasidone after about 15 years of having schizophrenia and that has worked out great. I wish I had been put on it from the very beginning but it hadn’t been released yet back then so it wasn’t an option.
I still have diabetes from my years on Olanzapine, but it is under control and my doc isn’t as worried about it anymore. My blood sugar levels are consistently pre-diabetic now which is a major improvement for me.
