I don’t know anyone there but sometimes would like to take my Chihuahua up there to cheer up some people. I really appreciated the people that would treat me like I was a person. Would like to be an encouragement also since I’ve recovered so we’ll. I think I could be encouraging. Just don’t know how to go about it.
Call 'em up!..
I would have loved to have someone bring their dog any of the times I’ve been in psych!
That would really be a fun treat and an inspiration.
When I was hospitalized they brought in dogs a couple times to play with, pet and cheer us up.
Unfortunately it was pit bulls and they killed 7 nurses, 5 doctors, and two janitors.
Hmmm, maybe its not as good an idea as I thought.
My Chihuahua is only 3 pds I think everyone is safe.
Ask for the hospital’s volunteer coordinator. Thank you for volunteering. Pet therapy is great.
Called two different places today , we decided that one of our dogs is to wild. So we thought maybe our bearded dragon. Well one place said definitely not a bearded dragon . The other place said certificate on your animals are needed. Our one dog we think would be good needs some socializing. Then they said I have to pass a check. So not even sure I would because my first episode I was brought to the hospital through the courts. So I don’t know how easy this will be. My wife likes the idea.
I’ve had many, many visitor hours where nobody came to see me.
Great idea !!
Yes I think sometimes a visit from a caring stranger would be better, because there’s no bridge to burn.
I never had a dog visit the 4 times I was hospitalized but I just got a dachshund named Chex about 5 months ago. She makes the struggle with sz more bearable. I’d like to make her a therapy dog so I could bring her to the hospital and help heal people. I just don’t know if I want to go back after my experiences- I’d be too afraid they wouldn’t let me leave. Not that I’m visibly psychotic but I just abhor the feeling of not being able to leave or escape a situation.
I’ve heard that when you pet a friendly animal your brain releases oxytocin, some type of feel-good chemical.
We had a dog come up once ,I was to psycotic to respond but lots of others enjoyed it.
I’ve got a new cat to keep me company. It’s very therapeutic. I think they’ve had some success with pets in nursing homes. They do add something to the environment.
Oxytocin is the chemical that humans (and dogs) get when taking care of children or the sick. It’s the chemical that helps the human race survive where anyone would take care of a young child or a little puppy. It’s the mothering, nurturing feel good chemical. Idk how I remember this, but it’s one of those fun facts, yea.
Can I inject it?
