I just made a new friend. He’s disabled and lives on housing assistance too. We met volunteering at the Wolfe Street Center (AA) bookstore. Well today my friend texted me he was going to the grocery store in the afternoon. We had a bad storm after he left. It got to be 9pm and I hadn’t heard from him. So I called and he didn’t answer. I went nuts calling hospitals to see if he was there, and called the police to check if he been in an accident. All the police could do is send someone to his apartment and check on him. I knew where his apartment complex was but didn’t know the apartment number. So the police couldn’t help me. I tried calling his number again, and he answered. He had been to a NA meeting with his sponsor. Boy was I embarrassed. I told him what I have been doing.

Hey, I wish I had someone who cared for me that much besides my family. You were just being a good friend.

Well he texts me when we been out doing something and lets me know he got home safely. It’s a pretty bad neighborhood he lives in, not that mine is any better.
