Drugs after a schizoprenic diagnose

Hello before my first episode i used to smoke weed and do coke at least once @ month for many years.

It’s being a year since i stop all drugs and i’m only taking seroquel (quetiapine) and tithium, i still hear the voice in my head but they do not have control over me.

In this year i stoped drinking alchol for 6 moth, then i figureout not drinking will not make the voice go completly away so from tim to tim i do drink alchol like i used to do before 5 to +10 hour and when i very drunk i have peace in my mind, its beautifull hehe.

I had research that people like us with a crazy mind can’t no go back to weed because it will make it worse but i had not find any info about cocaine.

So my question is, does any of you guys who had your sz controlled my medication had try cocaine or weed ?

Duing the hight what you feel ? Does the voice get away or it get loud ?

When im drinking alchol i skip my morning meds and take the nigh one when im gona sleep and hd stop drinking, can i do the same with cocaine ?

Im scared to get an episode while high but im chill because i already know everything is in my head and my meds will help me if there is any problem post…

Thanks for your experience, really appreciate.

Hi. Weed makes it 80% more likely that you will experience a psychotic episode. Cocaine is also just a horrible idea for anyone, but especially for you. The psychosis causes your gray matter in your brain to literally shrink, and this means everything else affects you worse than typical people.

Skipping your meds to drink won’t stop them from damaging your liver by mixing them btw. You’re still doing damage.

Hey @Croco . Basically having schizophrenia and a drug problem too decreases your life expectancy to 47 according to the statistics.

Try to stay clean (and sober if possible). Drinking while on seroquel is also a big no-no as far as I know.

Additionally, having schizophrenia together with substance abuse makes it more likely that you will commit a violent crime.

Stay away from drugs @Croco.

Medicine is supposed to put you on the right path, drugs will just sidetrack you into a different direction.

Here’s a doubt about the grey matter, I’m very sensitive to everything basically, substances, stress, etc. Does that mean I have low grey matter maybe?

Don’t do drugs, man, you probably know that those are not good, really, let’s act mature here, I also sometimes used to make up excuses for wanting to try bad stuff ‘maybe it’s not too bad’ ‘maybe this time it will be good’ ’ what if I’m not actually sz’ lol being strong and not falling for that ■■■■ is really something you can achieve that will make your life better, self-discipline, take care and respect yourself, that said in the most serious tone you can imagine.

Thanks you guys

Living with schizophrenia is going to give you all the trouble you can handle. Drugs will just add trouble you don’t need. Last I checked, cocaine is still illegal; mostly it’s a felony if you get caught. That should be an incentive to avoid it.

People on this thread already covered the terrible affect drugs can have on your schizophrenia. But it’s the peripheral crap that goes along with doing drugs that could send your life down the tubes maybe permanently. First of all, schizophrenics as a group abuse drugs a lot more than the general population. This means that your chances of getting addicted are way more than the average person.

You might tell yourself, “Well, it could never happen to me”. I grew up in an affluent city in a middle class family. When I got ill at 19 with schizophrenia I was in a few hospitals and group homes that were really nice in nice areas. In my illness I had cars, I went to college, I was mostly employed, I didn’t date much but I took out a few women who were way out of my league but very nice. But despite my background, at age 26 I tried crack and cocaine and fell in love with them.

I started out doing them infrequently but in a matter of months my use of both of them escalated and I became addicted. I did both of them every chance I got for the next four years. That’s where most of my money went. And they almost wrecked my life permanently. I eventually got clean in 1990 and haven’t touched drugs or alcohol since.

But earlier I used the word “peripheral”. By that, I mean the hassle, trouble, and danger of obtaining drugs. Most drug dealers are not nice, caring, empathetic, honest people to their customers. They cheat and lie to people and these are the people who you have to get your drugs from and you usually find them in the worst, dangerous places and those are the exact places that are going to cause you trouble and cause a hassle and complication in your life.

I know you might not be doing drugs every day or even every week but drug use and the lifestyle that goes along with it is as insidious as schizophrenia and you start off by smoking a couple joints and a few lines but the odds that your use will grow are very, very high as a schizophrenic. And you’re in that world often before you realize it.

So yeah, you can avoid all the trouble drugs bring by just stopping now. Drugs will complicate your life. You just don’t need that. Instead of spending your time and money on drugs just go to a movie or out to eat or go to the zoo or a bar mitzava or a strip club or something, lol. Anything but drugs!

Totally true guys, i know very well how drugs chabge your mind and love (went to rehab)

But I’m still curious about what will happend with the litter voice that never go completly out if some of us do coke once.

I have this question on my mind because the only way i can completly shut it down 100% if when im very drunk.

My doctor said alchol make it worst and i figure out thats true only if you are not medicate, if you are taling your meds every day, you can skip it the day you will drink and take the night dose only to and continue your life normally without risking nothing.

Stay away from drugs!
They will make your condition a lot worse!

Wrong. The alcohol makes it worse because you’re not getting consistent doses of your meds and also the alcohol damages your neurotransmitters. I think it lowers serotonin, but I can’t remember exactly. Either way, alcohol over time will lead to high rates of depression and suicidal thoughts.

This is a recovery oriented site. You will only get recovery oriented advice here. If you ever advocate skipping meds to drink again, it will lead to a suspension.

Drinking n mdma ■■■■■■ up my lifestyle real bad… But I will see if I can adapt

If you drink and take your meds you could die. The mixture of antipsychotics and alcohol lowers your breathing rate, and if you drink heavy while you have antipsychotics in your system you could experience respiratory failure.

The meds are still in your system when you skip for a night. If you’re drinking as heavy as you say/appear, then you are in for a bad experience. Maybe not today, maybe not this year, but you are gambling with your life for a substance.

You cant truly treat mental health without first eliminating substance abuse. Your symptoms will always get worse over time.

I’m done drinking. A couple nights ago I had the worst experience of my life. I drank two 24 oz beers. It was symptoms galore.
