I’m not an expert but I’ve learned a lot in the last year or so since I’ve been actively trying to learn.
Nope. But I know a few tricks.
I’m an expert in my own schizophrenia. Been living with schizophrenia 24/7 for 10 years. Doctors might know me for a few weeks at 5 minute ‘intervals’ and just use their knowledge and training to help me and others like me but I think it would take a lifetime and magic money (infinite money) to help me. I would rather just take the meds THAT WORK and maybe accept what I got and my condition. Maybe hope there is a cure some day or some revolutionary treatment or aliens come down from the sky and cure us all…ya right…
When I was diagnosed with schizoaffective for the first time years ago, I did a lot of in depth reading and research on my disorder.
I also know a lot about bipolar disorder.
İ think i developed some insight about paranoias since i m struggle for them nearly 20 years.i can feel which ideas are healthy which ones are not.
I did a lot of reading of scientific papers related to Schizophrenia and different treatment strategies
I then used to tell the Doctors about what I learnt and suggest treatment options. Some Dr’s thought I was crazy, and they maintained that they are the experts. Other Dr’s were impressed that I’d done my research
I’m no expert at schizoprenia. But when it comes to the specific drug I’m taking, olanzapine, I know more about it than any doctor, unless some doctor by chance have taken it themselves.
I think in that regard many people here are experts on the drugs they take. What it does at certain doses, side effects, interactions, all that stuff. But people can also react differently to drugs, so it’s more like you become a expert regarding what the drug specifically does to you. But some things are universal. Like almost everyone say they get weight gain from olanzapine, and people have trouble sleeping when taking low doses of it.
