Does anyone donate blood or plasma?

I’m going in tomorrow to donate red blood cells. They hook you up to a machine that processes your blood and takes the red blood cells out. It then pumps what’s left back into your body.

They really want me to donate because my blood type matches a sick baby and a burn victim.

I used to donate whole blood every 8 weeks or so, but my doctor did lab tests and my iron was so low that I needed to get iron infusions. I liked donating cuz here they have a points system where you could donate and then get free stuff. I have O- blood and wish I could keep giving but I can’t anymore.

I have sold plasma a couple times when I was stretched for cash. I’ve told this story before, but I’ll tell it again.

Short story is.

When I was psychotic, I bought some syringes to try to remove my blood because I thought it was contaminated with poison. I later went into plasma place and tried to give plasma. They saw the marks on my wrists and said I was “high risk” and couldnt donate. I believe they thought I was doing drugs. I tried many years later and they still have me on file as someone who they will not let donate. I may be banned for life. lol.

Oh well, I dont need the money anymore anyway.

They really want O- right now. I think that’s the one they can give anyone. I haven’t donated for money, I tried once but they turned me down because I had sex with men.

Not allowed to because of heart condition.

Yeah, they always used to check for “tracks” during the physical exam, but after I was a regular they quit that crap. I was offended. I wish I could donate just plasma for money, but the local bank doesn’t have the right machines…they only take whole blood.

Well I disclosed all my medical conditions, medications, and sexual orientation and they are taking my blood now. I think the question was if you had sex with a man in the past three months now.

I don’t know why red blood cells though. Maybe @dougRN knows.

What would you like to know @anon54988740

Hey Doug. Why a burn victim needs red blood cells. There’s probably no telling why the sick baby needs them.

Maybe due to anemia?. Here is a link that explains it pretty well.

I was always told no because of all the places I have visited in the military. Maybe after a certain time that doesn’t matter anymore.
