Do you think TV and movies have a large impact on the types of delusions a person has?

I do. I think the plots of these entertainment vehicles gets ingrained in our psyches and have a huge impact on delusions. Especially if you have been watching from a very young age.

Psychic abilities, conspiracies, special powers and abilities, angels and demons, aliens, all things often depicted in TV and movies.

I saw The Wizard of OZ and The Curse of The Demon when I was too young and they scared me. I have delusions about witches and the devil being after me.

Yes, mostly. Even silly stuff like the TV Show ‘Lost’ where I thought I was John Locke and suffered and had a tragic life.

I empathized and liked the Smoke Monster (MiB), Jacob, Richard Alpert, Sawyer, Jack Shephard, Boone, and Desmond Hume – mainly.

I thought I was Smoke Monster (MiB) (Man in Black) and even Desmond Hume, mainly too. Like I had an incident where I can do ‘soul transfer’ or ‘consciousness transfer’ back and forth through time and eventually ‘homing’ in back to this reality sometimes. It’s part of my delusional system or ‘matrix’.

In a past life or even early on in my illness, I thought I was MiB because I thought I was made out of nano-tech, and could remote view outside my head like astral projection aka ‘psychic’.

I wanted to be a doctor or lawyer, but mainly a surgeon so that really made me think I was Jack Shepherd in my original life and was a hero and leader, but wasn’t. I thought I even looked like him lol.

Richard Alpert is one of my favorite characters of all time because he is immortal like my self according to my delusions, but I do age. I have grey hairs and stuff. But I seem to be quasi or semi immortal.

Jacob is the leader and also coincidentally my brother’s name…So I feel like I must protect him obviously.

I got really into the TV Show ‘Lost’ and watched every episode and never figured it all out. I guess it’s ‘unanswerable’ and not meant to make sense or be solved lol. I thought I had a connection to the tv show but it’s just fantasy and dreams like I was their #1 biggest fan and stuff lol. I even thought I experienced time travel and stuff too.

I think the blonde is really attractive in the show and is Boone’s sister.

I get very frequent nightmares, and I think this is because I’m too immersed in novels and movies. They range from low-level things like not being able to find my timetable for college, and not knowing what class to go to, to very violent scenes like something out of a warzone. I don’t have an offline social life (aside from talking with a few relatives). I try and be careful to limit the amount of violence I watch. I’ll watch some dramas and comedies too. I’ll watch funny cat videos on youtube. My recent favourite movie was The Upside (it had two excellent character arcs). I’m worried that if I gave up them up, it would be hard to have conversations with other people, because it’s a big part of our culture. The kicker is that I rarely talk to people. I have delusions. I believe I’m very psychic. People just brush me off as crazy.

The film “City of Angels” with Meg Ryan had a huge impact on me. I cant watch it anymore - It feeds my delusions too much.

I think anything you put in your brain, do a lot, or think about a lot, impacts delusions and hallucinations.

For examples, I am a musician and I occasionally get music hallucinations. Also, I am very religious and I used to get religious themed, delusions of reference.
@Bowens

I was told all this by a psychiatrist once.

Ya, again. I watched clips of ‘Legion’ the comic book tv show and thought that was me or it triggered memories of my life like ‘war’ ‘time travel’ ‘immortality’ ‘schizophrenia’ etc. I just took a small bit of it (the words and sayings) and extrapolated it and made it my own. I still find it bizarre and scary.

I read the John Titor story and thought that was me. I thought I created Bitcoin, but it’s probably not real or true. My mind plays powerful tricks on me and stuff and I look into reasons why I was targeted/tortured by extraterrestrials so many times with no proof or evidence, really, except with my memories and past life memories and such.

I think if you say a “lie” or a falsehood or a delusion so many times, it brings bad karma and vibes and could be potentially dangerous for me and others like people might take it seriously when in fact it’s not true/real, I suppose. There’s a lot of crazies on the internet. Dangerous folks, you know.
