Tell them u were self employed or that u were in school.
Maybe you could say youāve been living in a foreign country? I would caution against giving your employer any particulars. Iām not saying all people are like this, but there are people who might try to use that kind of information to blackmail you for some reason. There are people like that.
If I were working, I would not. But, my chances of getting hired by anyone are practically nil. So, why talk about it?
You might want to try transitional employment. I believe club houses have this. Other employment agencies might have this. I might try transitional employment myself one day.
When my sz symptoms came on I went catonic at work and was fired. I applied for ssdi and I havenāt worked since. I hear voices randomly they the day more of a mumble now but the chance of going catatonic is still real. I doubt Iāll work again
I definitely donāt plan on bringing it up, but if asked about the gap in my work history, I need some sort of valid explanation.
Iām planning on applying for an overnight grocery stocker type of job, so I hope an interview will be generic and mundane.
What do you want to say?
Iād say āI have a medical condition that forced me not to workā.
If they try to ask what type of condition, I would just say itās personal. My Therapist said they arenāt allowed to pry any deeper than that
Whatās the job?
overnight grocery stocker
Just know that if you say what you plan you are telling them that you have MI most likely. But you should be comfortable with what youāre saying. I donāt know for that job, but as someone who did a bit of hiring it would be a red flag, and I would be worried if it could happen again
I just hope it doesnāt come up. I plan on keeping it discreet, but I donāt want to give them some far-fetched lie like I was out of the country or going to school. Lying like that could be worse than just being generic about my MI.
Looking for work is what Iāve always used and no one questions that
yea thatās a good one, itās mostly true
But I like to see peoples faces change when I say Iām disabled or even have a psychotic spectrum illnessā¦
In my country withholding information from my employer and if I lied to them would be grounds for dismissal!
What country is that?
england! 151515
I know lots of you are suggesting to bend the truth, but it would fuel my psychosisā¦
Iāve had one form or another of mental Illness since I was in my teensā¦ you think I told any employer I was mentally ill? Youād have to be crazy
I would definitely tell the truth. My last employer knew that I was mentally ill and would need to take time off regularly to tend to my illness. I worked for them for 5 years and went out on disability for several months a couple times. The last time I went out on disability they held my job for over a year and then could not hold it any longer. When they decided to hire someone else they called me to tell me they would have me back anytime I recovered. I was truly blessed with my last employer, they were like family to me. I have much love and respect for them. If I recover to the point of working I would definitely consider them again.
