When I was in America I liked eating in Waffle House. 20 years ago when I lived in my auto in America, I became ill and felt quite bad when I was in Washington D.C. It was close to 0 celcius degrees, 32 F and I continued my journey to Miami. On my way to Miami I stopped near Savannah and went to one Waffle House and ate well, omelette, coffee and bread and soon I started feeling better. Then I continued my journey to Miami Beach. It was two weeks before the US presidential elections in 2000.
i love their hashbrowns. it was big news when my hometown got a waffle house. before that, i would only eat there when i went to tennessee.
one time when i was vegan i just ordered a bowl of jalapenos at waffle house. it gave me a euphoric feeling for like 15 minutes, but an hour later i had the runs haha. last time i did that. and we were on a road trip, so we had to stop and i ran to the bathroom.
I’ve never been. It is sort of an urban legend in the north where I live. We don’t have any chains in my state as far as I know, but nearly everyone has a story about a time when someone they know went to a Waffle House during a trip and witnessed a stabbing/found cockroaches/were offered drugs. I’ve kind of always wanted to go just to see if the rumors are true.
It’s a great place to go if you want mediocre food and to feel unsafe while fellow patrons brandish handguns at each other. It’s a rather odd experience if you’re Canadian – we don’t DO that here.
Edit: I suppose my first clue that something was amiss should have been every other business on that street either being a pawn shop or a bail bond business (we don’t have the latter in Canada either, that I’m aware of).
2nd edit: The waitress told me after the hoo-hah that it was actually a quiet week. Makes you wonder what an exciting week would be like. Maybe it was just a Florida thing?
We have one at every exit off the interstate. Some of them are rough. There Is one by my mother in laws house in a neighborhood and not by the interstate and it’s very safe.
My wife loves Waffle House. That’s what she missed the most when we lived in Southern California.
The only equivalent of a waffle house out here is Dennys, last time I went they had biscuits and gravy with potaytoes for $4. Yay cheap comfort food lol. But all the casinos have cheap breakfast at the late hours of the night with tweakers galore everywhere.
