Do they call guinea pigs pigs cause of their heavy appetite or the sound they make?

Thoughts? Answers? .,.

Lol! My son’s guinea pig has both but I think the appetite is the cause for the name. As soon as you enter his room or rustle a bag, he starts crying out. No matter how soon he has been fed!

I think because they’re rodents from New Guinea.

I love guinea pigs, they have so much personality and I like them more than rats! I had a few in my early 20’s. I might get one again in the far future.

Thanks for the pics

Guinea Pigs got their name because of the sound they make and because they look like miniature pigs.
Zippy looks so cute @Val!

My favorite South Park episode is the one with the Guinea pigs destroying the town. They had them dressed up in cute outfits. Guinea bees, guinea pirates, Guinea-saurus Rex, guinea spiders. It was ridiculously funny. I think the lore behind that episode was that Guiana pigs came from Peru and were some kind of guardians.

agree that’s cool
