I think they do. 1515
Definitely for me anyway
I don’t know. My memory is shocking but I’m not sure whether it’s the meds or cognitive impairment from the illness
Depends. I noticed contradicting feelings. I’m not monitoring or writing down and analyzing my condition or symptoms or anything. But I feel like the meds are needed for me overall and I’m better with them. I cannot remember crap long term and short term anymore. My critical thinking skills and intelligence has declined too but that could be the progressiveness of my illness, not the meds – soley.
I think I have bigger problems like attention span, focusing, retaining information like hearing things, and following directions.
Sometimes you gotta give and take depending on the overall feelings/benefits. I rather lose some IQ points but gain some functionability and happiness. I hate the weight gain, but I think my IQ is rather pretty static and fixed at 120. Maybe the whole IQ thing is an illusion regarding medications…
At higher doses, yes. The cognitive hit can be severe. Newer style APs at lower doses aren’t a problem for me.
Yes. My memory was bad before meds, though, due to psychosis. Some AP’s make my memory VERY bad.
I was on meds for like 3 years or so, and then I had a psychotic-manic break. I was hospitalized. My memory suffered greatly from that “break”. My memory significantly worsened after that and it’s still a problem.
Certain meds do make it worse, though. I try to avoid meds that make it worse, cause my memory is already pretty bad.
Does clozapine 300mg do it
I remember it being very sedating and ramping my appetite. Can’t speak to memory as I wasn’t on it long and it was when I wasn’t working or doing much beyond lying around my room all day (this is decades ago). They took me off it as it wiped out my white blood cells and put me in the hospital with pneumonia.
That sucks 1515
I think the biggest cognitive hit you get from meds is lack of concentration because dopamine is linked to concentration. But they probably are capable of hindering memory as well.
I bet if you are having problems in school not being able to memorize stuff it is linked more to the fact that you cannot concentrate on your studies as well.
Its probably more the sz than the meds.
I started having cognitive and negative symptoms 3yrs before I was diagnosed and put on meds.
Yeah, I agree with @Aziz too. I had negative symptoms prior to meds.
Idk if I have sz or just psychosis NOS
My memory is pretty much gone, idk if it’s from having a bunch of disorder or the meds but… yeah I don’t remember a lot of my life
No, when I am at peace, I can recollect very old long lost memory. Example just now I recollected long lost subjects I did not have an idea about,
But when I talk to someone and there is an excitment to say another sentence, the thought is gone(wanished).
I think the meds stays in the system and any studden bust of dopamine it would be absorbed and the memory is lost.
And also when I doubt and stress on a memory, those ones never reveals, means all forgotten. Sometimes the entire topic is forgotten.
When I was working in customer support, the customer informed all the details and later I forgot, luckly he had come for second time, so checked the notes and got to know the issue.
no actually my memory is a 1000 times better, especially short term memory. i don’t know if it’s meds improving my memory or the fact that i no longer smoke marijuana and rarely drink. plus i live a less eventful simpler lifestyle now, easy to remember things.
That’s great man glad you’re doing better… I think my memory is fried from being in psychosis and having some other disorders. But idk I try not to think about it @Lifer
