Disheartened

I don’t have a job yet honestly I’m being super picky this time … But my social skills aren’t very good so I don’t do well if I get interviews. I think my audhd has some role to play. And maybe I shouldn’t reveal my dx to potential employers.

I don’t tell them my diagnosis during job interviews. I MIGHT tell them I’m on disability but i don’t get specific as to why.

Never mention autism before hiring, it has always backfired th few times when i did

It’s where they ask do you have a disability in the forms. When you say that theres guaranteed interview scheme if you meet the criteria.

I always been telling them for reasonable adjustments to help with the interview. Seems to backfire every time.

Yeah, there’s no way to prove otherwise, but they nearly always use it against you in my experience

My experience coincides with @MisterApple; every time I disclose something, I lose out on a job. I’ve even had a potential employer flat out tell me he was nervous about me as a hire because I have bad knees. It wasn’t even a physical job. :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

As for the interviews, remember that every one is good practice for the next. Use them as a way to build your skills. If one doesn’t work out, that wasn’t the right job for you. I think you are right to be picky. With sz/sza or other disabilities like audhd, the wrong job could be a setback. If you are able to be picky, by all means be picky- it’s probably better for you in the long run.

I don’t know what to do as I took advise from my mh team and they said it could be a good idea to disclose but it’s backfired and this is the longest I’ve been out of work.

I have never disclosed to an employer or potential employer. I don’t know how that would have been beneficial. I am now getting benefits for schiz thankfully. @Ish

I don’t do well with interviews, especially if they’re online. I feel like people save the interview and still laughing about it.

I do, but in a way that minimizes it.

“You have schizophrenia?”

“Yes, but I also have a Class 2 license to drive a school bus full of other peoples’ kids. My doctor signed off on it because I am THAT stable. I only bring this up because I’m not someone who hides important things from employers.”
